The benefit of virtualizing end-user resources is not restricted to the desktop. Application virtualization allows organizations to consolidate applications, simplifying upgrades, maintenance, and deployment. Using Citrix® XenServer™ and XenApp™ with the Leostream Connection Broker, organizations can provide a complete desktop and application delivery system. The XenServer hypervisor hosts the Leostream Connection Broker and other Microsoft Windows and Linux VMs, while the XenApp farm centrally manages a single copy of an application, to make available to users on demand.
Citrix XenServer Support
The Leostream Connection Broker offers native support for Citrix XenServer, easily installing as a virtual appliance on XenServer 5. As a result, enterprises can now create a VDI entirely on XenServer. This capability builds on Leostream’s previous Citrix offerings, including Leostream’s long-standing Citrix Ready verified support for managing VMs hosted in XenServer.
Citrix XenApp Support
Integrating application delivery with VDI requires a connection broker that can deliver both applications and desktops. The Leostream Connection Broker integrates with Citrix XenApp to deliver hosted applications to end users logging in through Leostream Connect clients and Wyse thin clients. Users can simultaneously connect to multiple desktops and applications.
Using the Leostream Connection Broker, organizations can:
- Build a pure Citrix VDI, by installing the Leostream Connection Broker on XenServer and managing XenServer VMs and XenApp desktops and applications.
- Deliver XenApp applications simultaneously with virtual and physical desktops.
- Use the Citrix ICA™ protocol for applications while using the remote viewer protocol for desktops depending on how end-user policies are configured.
- Create pools of desktops and applications for delivery to different groups of users.
- Assign desktop and application pools based on end-user policy and location, providing different desktops and applications depending on the user’s location.
